Cynergy Bank Secures £15.1m Facility for Canterbury Student Housing Scheme
Cynergy Bank has provided a £15.1m senior debt facility to Student Lux Limited to finance the construction of The Sanctum, a 180-room purpose-built student accommodation scheme in Canterbury, Kent.
The development is situated on an underutilized brownfield site immediately adjacent to the University of Kent campus, seeking to address local demand for purpose-built student accommodation amid constrained market supply.
The financial facility was structured with a stabilization tail and an occupancy-linked pricing mechanism to align with operational ramp-up.
Student Lux Limited indicated that profits generated from The Sanctum will form part of a broader investment strategy in Canterbury, funding future development initiatives in the area.
The investment follows the merger of the University of Kent and the University of Greenwich on 1 August 2026, which created the London and South East University Group.
Propertyreporter reportedly quoted Henry Wilson-Holt (relationship director at Cynergy Bank) as saying: “We're delighted to support Student Lux Limited to deliver much-needed purpose-built student accommodation in Canterbury”.
