Welsh Farmer Dropped into Freezing Abandoned Town for Survival Show 'Apocalypse'
A 33-year-old farmer from mid Wales was dropped into an abandoned American town with no food, running water, electricity, or tools for Channel 4's new survival series Apocalypse. Ioan Humphreys, who runs a family farm in Carno, was recruited by producers seeking a contestant with a background in agriculture and practical resourcefulness.
BBC News reportedly quoted Ioan Humphreys (33-year-old farmer from Carno) as saying: “We got dropped into the survival situation with nothing, only what we were wearing,”.
The television series places two groups of strangers into an environment filled with remnants of modern life, requiring them to recycle and reuse objects while competing for limited resources. Filming occurred at a specialized facility typically utilized for military training operations.
Sub-zero temperatures and group conflict
BBC News reportedly quoted Ioan Humphreys (Channel 4 Apocalypse contestant) as saying: “There was no power. There was no food. There was no running water.”.
Conditions during the production were severe, with overnight temperatures falling significantly below freezing. Humphreys noted that managing his farm staff gave him foundational leadership skills, allowing him to focus on fire-building and maintaining team morale.
