Trump Forms 'Super Intelligence Force' and Formally Rebrands AI
US President Donald Trump announced the creation of a new federal task force tasked with steering nation-wide policy on advanced computing technology. Named the Super Intelligence Force, the body will report directly to the president and White House Chief of Staff Susie Wiles, coordinating engagement between federal agencies, consumer advocacy groups, religious institutions, and technology developers.
The panel is chaired by Director of National Intelligence Jay Clayton. Additional appointed members include Federal Trade Commission Chair Andrew Ferguson, Undersecretary of Defense for Research and Engineering Emil Michael, and Office of Personnel Management Director Scott Kupor.
Terminology change and voluntary regulation
Alongside the panel's creation, President Trump signed an executive order replacing the official government terminology of artificial intelligence with super intelligence, stating that the former term implied the technology was fake. Several industry figures adopted the branding, with Elon Musk announcing his firm's platform would be renamed SpaceXSI.
BBC News reportedly quoted Elon Musk (Chief Executive of Tesla and SpaceX owner) as saying: “SpaceX is a super intelligence company”.
The administration continues to favor self-regulation over mandatory federal restrictions, following the signing of a voluntary pact by chief executives from major firms including OpenAI, Anthropic, Google, and SpaceX. However, public interest groups and industry executive leaders remain divided over appropriate safety safeguards.
BBC News reportedly quoted Sam Altman (Chief Executive of OpenAI) as saying: “The world should accept some bad things happening for the benefits of this technology and people having the agency”.
