Former World Boxing Champion Liam Smith Charged With GBH in Manchester
Former world champion boxer Liam Smith has been charged with causing grievous bodily harm with intent following an alleged assault on a night concierge in Manchester. The 38-year-old fighter was arrested after the victim sustained severe facial injuries.
According to police, the alleged incident took place on 13 September at The Blade, a luxury apartment complex on Silvercroft Street in Deansgate, Manchester. The victim suffered facial fractures and subsequently required surgical treatment.
Smith appeared at Manchester Magistrates' Court the day after his arrest, where he was formally charged with GBH with intent before being released on bail. He is due to appear at Manchester Crown Court on 19 October to formally enter his plea.
Boxing career and recent inactivity
Known by his ring moniker 'Beefy', the Liverpudlian boxer is one of four brothers who have all contested world titles in professional boxing. Smith held the WBO light-middleweight world title from 2015 to 2016.

Smith has not fought since last year, when he lost to Aaron McKenna on the undercard of the Chris Eubank Jr versus Conor Benn event. He was scheduled to return to the ring in Finland on 4 September against Ilari Kujala, but pulled out days prior due to a calf injury.
Earlier in his career, Smith achieved notable victories, including a stoppage win over Chris Eubank Jr in 2023 before losing their rematch later that year. He also fought superstar Canelo Alvarez in Dallas, Texas, in 2016, losing by ninth-round knockout.
