Police Launch Murder Investigation After Man Shot Dead at West London Memorial Service
The Metropolitan Police have launched a murder investigation following the fatal shooting of a 40-year-old man in East Acton, west London. Emergency services were alerted at 19:47 GMT on Friday after members of the public reported hearing multiple gunshots near the junction of Braybrook Street and Erconwald Street. Officers responded alongside paramedics from the London Ambulance Service, but despite the efforts of medical personnel, the victim was pronounced dead at the scene.
Detectives believe the shooting took place while a crowd of between 40 and 50 people, including young children, had gathered for a memorial gathering. A police cordon remains in place along Braybrook Street while forensic officers continue to examine the scene. Specialist officers are supporting the victim's family, and a post-mortem examination is scheduled to formally establish the cause of death, which is initially believed to be a gunshot wound.
Police Appeal for Community Information
Investigators are appealing to anyone who was in the vicinity of Erconwald Street, Braybrook Street, surrounding roads, or the nearby Wormwood Scrubs playground between 18:00 and 20:00 GMT on Friday. Police are particularly keen to hear from individuals who observed anyone concealing weapons, riding bicycles suspiciously, or driving vehicles at high speed around the time of the incident.
BBC News reportedly quoted Brian Howie (Detective Chief Inspector leading the investigation, Metropolitan Police) as saying: “Our thoughts are with the family and friends of a man whose life was taken in a senseless act of violence.”.

No arrests have been made as the investigation continues. Detectives are urging witnesses to submit any relevant mobile phone video, dashcam footage, doorbell camera recordings, or photographs that could assist in identifying the perpetrators.
