Crystal Palace Agrees Deal to Acquire 27-Acre Site in Beckenham
Crystal Palace FC has agreed to purchase the 27-acre HSBC Sports Ground in Beckenham, South London, expanding its operational footprint adjacent to its existing academy complex. The site, which features football and cricket pitches alongside a sports pavilion, has been owned by HSBC and its predecessor Midland Bank for 100 years before being placed on the market.
Industry estimates place the transaction value between £20 million and £40 million. The acquisition gives Crystal Palace options to either expand its youth academy facilities or relocate its first-team training operations directly onto the newly acquired land.

Investment in elite youth infrastructure
The acquisition builds upon major infrastructure investments completed by the Premier League club in recent years. Palace opened a state-of-the-art academy site in 2021 that secured Category 1 status—the highest rating in English youth development. Recent upgrades have also expanded the club's medical, gymnasium, performance, and media spaces.
Cityam reportedly quoted Sharon Lacey (Chief Executive Officer at Crystal Palace FC) as saying: “continued to invest in our facilities and support the future growth of the football club”.
The expansion reinforces Palace's strategy to capitalize on south London's reputation as a top global talent pool for young footballers, which regularly rivals international hotbeds such as Paris and Rio de Janeiro in producing professional players.
